This presentation will be led by Merrilyn Onisko, former immigration attorney and current Supervisory Immigration Officer with Refugee and International Operations Divisions of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Agency. She will cover the difference between Asylum and Refugee status, how many refugees and asylees can be admitted into the U. S. each year, what the standards are for eligibility, where cases are processed throughout the world and in the U.S., and what some of the reasons are that people flee their countries and apply for refugee and asylum status.
