latest word newsletter logo with lion, lamb, women, and basketball players

OK, I think we got that confused. Let's try again. It's March, so we are celebrating coming in like a somewhat meek lion (or a feisty lamb?), Women's History Month, and March Madness in our own special way. Keep reading to see how the WPL is welcoming March.

We need your help crowning our March Madness: Battle of the Books Champion!

book march madness ballot

We can't let the college basketball fans have all the fun in March! We've come up with 16 titles that were recently popular for our very own Book March Madness competition. Some showed early-season strength, but have struggled in the recent weeks. Others are scrappy underdogs. Either way, you get to pick who wins the title of 2022 Book March Madness Champion in our battle of the books!

Simply choose the book you think should advance to the next round in each matchup. Each week the field will narrow just a bit more. Vote now online or submit a paper ballot at our BMM library display. We have tons of copies of each contender on the display as well.

Now, we'll take questions from the press:
Reporter: How did you select the books?
WPL: We looked for recent popular titles. We made sure they were books with plenty of copies available, and we just had to throw in a few that were "love it or hate it, no in-between."

Reporter: How did you make the matchups?
WPL: We started by trying to match like books, but it ended poorly, and we were too exhausted to try again.

Reporter: What if I haven't read both books in each matchup?
WPL: Well, you could grab a copy and get reading. Failing that, we have a few suggestions on how to pick a winner:

  • Choose the one with the prettiest cover.
  • Can't stand the author of one of the books? Cool. Choose the other one.
  • Flip to a random page count to the 29th word on the page. The book that has the longest word wins.
As you can see, this is a very scientific poll. May the best book win!

If you're trapped inside while the March lion roars...

The Weston Art and Innovation Center is just buzzing with activity, so say goodbye to mud season boredom! The AIC is the makerspace branch of the Weston Public Library. If you aren't really sure what that means, the best way to find out is by popping in on the second Saturday of the month for a tour. If Saturdays won't work for you, no problem. The AIC has regular hours and our super friendly staff would be happy to give you the full spiel. Visit https://westonaic.org/ for info on the current class and event offerings, hours, and other great information.

If you need a place to host that long-overdue get-together, a business meeting, over even an intimate wedding (yes, even a wedding!), the AIC can help. For more information, check out our facilities rental information.
