Important Fitness Class Changes

  • Effective September 1st, 2020 the links to join fitness classes will change. They will include passwords to join the meetings embedded in the link. Only participants who are registered in our system will receive these links. If you are not registered, or do not know if you are, contact the COA. Please do not share these links with anyone but instead have them contact us so that we can register them appropriately. We would like to get those individuals who do not have a record set up with one prior to September 1 so there is not disruption in their participation.

  • We require first and last name on Zoom. If you are unable to change your name, contact the COA and let us know what your Zoom name is so we can correspond it with your record.
  • We are reinstating our $5 per class fee. You may prepay your account by sending a check to the Weston COA and we will deduct the class cost each time you participate or we will send you an invoice at the end of the month for the classes you have taken. When sending a payment please indicate if it is a donation for past class participation or a prepayment of your account. You may pay by mail with a check or drop off a check or cash payment at the COA by calling the COA when you here and a staff member will take your payment and give you a receipt.
  • We were fortunate to be able to fully subsidize the cost of our fitness classes since the start of our online programs in late March, but going forward we are unable to continue to subsidize the entire cost. We ask that you reflect upon the number of fitness classes you have taken since March and consider making a donation to the COA in relation to the number of classes in which you have participated. A donation of any amount helps us provide this service and support our instructors. Thank you to those who have already generously contributed during the past 4 months.

  • Lastly, we will be offering a designated space at the COA (called the Zoom Room) for people to participate in our zoom offerings at the COA instead of at home. This is for individuals who cannot do so from their home or who would like to visit us at the COA. If there is someone who you think may be interested in this opportunity (perhaps someone who took your class in person but you don't see them in the Zoom classes) please let us know so we can reach out to them and let them know about this opportunity.
Please contact Kristen Frady frady.k@westonma.gov or the COA office 781 786 6280 if you have any questions.

SAVE THE DATES

Annual Town Election and Annual Town Meeting

These two events are annually held in May but were postponed due to uncertainty from the growing public health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus, as well as economic uncertainty that could impact the fiscal year 2021 operating budget. With more clarity and guidance from the state, the Select Board called for both to be held in September, after Labor Day weekend.

The Annual Town Election will be held on Thursday, September 10th; however, voters can request a Vote by Mail application to avoid in-person voting on the 10th. The deadline to submit the application is September 3rd by 5:00 p.m. For residents who want to cast their ballot on the day of the election, please note the following:

  • if you are sick or under quarantine, you need to request a vote by mail or absentee ballot; please do not attend in person
  • all precincts report to the Town Hall Auditorium
  • a facial covering (e.g. mask, neck gaiter) is required
  • expect longer than usual wait times, including the possibility of waiting outside, due to social distancing and other public health modifications to the polling space
  • polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Annual Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 3:00 p.m. on Proctor Field at the Weston High School. The proceeding will be conducted outside. Special accommodations will be made to assist physically challenged voters needing to travel between the parking lot and the field. Details will be available in the Warrant and Budget Book, as well as future announcements. Residents who are sick or who are under quarantine are asked not to attend in the interest of public safety. Facial coverings will be required. If needed, the rain date is Sunday the 13th.

Residents who participate in either the Town Election or Town Meeting must be registered to vote in Weston. The deadline to register for both is August 31st.

For additional information on the Town Election, please visit Weston.org/TownElection. The Town Meeting warrant (agenda) will be posted shortly to Weston.org/TownMeeting (which will also be updated) and will be mailed to every household.

poll
Wanted: Weston Poll Workers

The Weston Town Clerk is seeking residents 18+ to help the community by working in the three upcoming elections. Poll workers are responsible for checking in registered voters, answering general questions, and checking out the voters after the ballot has been submitted. With the anticipated increase in absentee/vote by mail ballots this year, workers will also assist with that process.

Many of Weston's election workers are considered to be in the at-risk population for COVID-19. Because of this, there is additional need for help with the elections. Safety measures will be in place, including PPE and physical distancing.

The upcoming elections where election workers are needed are:
  • September 1st State Primary (7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
  • September 10th Town Election (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
  • November 3rd Presidential Election (7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)

There are two polling locations for the state and national elections. A variety of shifts is available and this is a paid position.

Please call Town Clerk Deborah Davenport at 781-786-5015 or email at davenport.d@westonma.gov if you are interested or have any questions.
weston ahead

Introducing, Weston Ahead

Weston is committed to a sustainable future. As we face the surging threats of climate change, it’s clear that our Town needs to take bold action in the face of the climate crisis. That action is Weston Ahead.

Weston Ahead will start with a Climate Action and Resilience Plan. We’ll take a look at what aspects of the town are most vulnerable to climate change, how we are contributing to a changing climate, and what opportunities we have for positive change – as residents, students, organizations and town government. To learn more about the planning process, visit westonahead.org.

Make your voice heard! We need input from Weston residents and business owners to identify your highest priority for climate action and resilience. Is it bike lanes, energy efficient buildings, composting, land use management, or something else? Take our online survey by August 28th to share your input.
