Summer Reading
We have two programs for children: The Preschool Reading Program, for kids ages 3 - 6, the Kids Reading Program, for kids grades 1 through 6 in the fall. Record the books you read and complete reading challenges over the course of the summer.
Kids Summer Reading Program!
Grades 1 - 6. Kids entering First Grade in September 2020 can choose between the Kids Reading Program and the Preschool Program; Kids entering Sixth Grade in September 2020 can choose between the Kids Reading Program and the Teen Program.
Read and record your books over the summer months. This year, you may enter an optional review for each book. When you complete 5 books in your Reading Log, you will be entered into a weekly drawing. Winners will be notified to schedule prize pickup.
Keeps checking back for new reading challenges every week on the WPL Wandoo Reader webpage. You will receieve an entry into a weekly drawing for ach challenge.
Reading Challenges
Book Reviews should start with the Title and Author of the book, a summary of the book, and an opinion on how you felt about the book--either your favorite part, or an overall impression. Book Review expectations will be different for first graders than for fifth graders!
Activity Challenges will be detailed in the information about the challenge.
You must complete a challenge correctly, and a Librarian must approve your review to receive an entry into the drawing.
Some challenges will be short term--only available for three weeks--while others will go on all summer. For some, you will have to complete a first challenge for the second to appear.

Challenges are completely optional. Once you complete a Challenge, you will entered into the weekly drawing.
Every Challenge entered must be for a different book.Challenges can be taken from books in your Reading Log...your Reading Log is a list of the books you've read this summer, so for Challenges you should take a book on your list and tell us more about it.
The Summer Reading Deadline will be on Sunday, August 16th. Your Reading Log and Challenges must all be entered by Midnight. Stay tuned for details on how we will celebrate our summer readers!
Preschool Summer Program!
For Ages 3 to 6 (Children who are 6 and entering first grade in September 2020 can choose to join this program, or they can join the Summer Reading Program for kids entering 1st - 6th grades).
Record the books you read with your child; every five books entered earns your child an entry into the weekly prize drawing.
Prize winners will be notified to schedule pickup.
You may keep track of books read starting June 22nd.
There will be Preschool Reader Just for Fun Challenges each week. There will be book-related or library-related activities to do each week--not for prizes, but just for fun. Our hope is that your family will do these Challenges together and have some summer fun with books and reading together!

How Does This Program Work?
Register starting June 22nd and complete the challenges to earn points for your reading to redeem for prizes at the end of the summer Zoom Party.
Please Note: Logging books under the Books feature will let you keep track of what you read this summer in a printable list format. Writing a review of 5 sentences per book under the Challenges feature is the ONLY WAY TO EARN POINTS for your reading. The DEADLINE for entering all your information is August 16th.
This program is open to all readers aged 18 and over. Read or listen to two or more books of your choice and keep a log of your titles- login in to our tracking tool here! At summer's end one lucky reader will be awarded a surprise gift basket.
