Hydrant Flushing Schedule

The Weston DPW Water Division flushes out fire hydrants throughout the Town beginning early April and continuing through the end of June. The announcement of when this annual operation is set to start is sent via the Town's NewsFlash email system (via subscription). An estimated schedule of when each section of town is targeted is available to the right.

Purpose

The purpose of flushing hydrants is to remove sediment buildup in the mains, which if left in the water main over time could cause taste, odor and turbidity problems to consumers.

Clear Water Before Laundry

The flushing may result in temporary discoloration of the water, caused by small particles dislodged during the flushing. Discoloration might stain your laundry, especially white materials.

To help avoid stains to your laundry, we recommend you check the water for possible discoloration during the periods of flushing, (8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.).  If the water is discolored, let the cold water run for a minute or two, or until the water clears.

Schedule

Hydrant flushing is performed on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. starting from the south side of Town, working towards the north.  A map of the town's hydrants and a schedule for flushing is available here..
