2017 Summer Reading

Registration for the 2017 Summer Reading Program starts Saturday, June 10th.  You can start logging your books the next day.  All our events, crafts, prizes and programs officially begin on Monday, July 3rd.  Check our Calendar to see the schedule of special programs and regular weekly storytimes in July and August.  Our Deadline to enter your reading is August 20th at midnight, so make sure everything is entered in your Reading Log by then!

 Grades 1 - 6

Read and record your books online!  There are two ways to earn prizes -- Keep track of your books, and every five books read earns you a prize from our Summer Readers Chest. Complete Reading Challenges for prizes from the Display Case!  New Reading Challenges will pop up throught the summer. When you complete a Challenge correctly, come to the Library Monday through Friday to pick out a prize. Prizes start July 3rd. Every time you complete a Reading Challenge, fill out a Reading Raffle ticket for one of our Grand Prizes--book galleys, a Minecraft Lego set and a Kindle!

 For Ages 3 to 6

Read books with your favorite people--parents, grandparents, brother, sisters and babysitters--and enjoy some quality time together!  Have the adult enter the titles you read together and for every five books read, you can pick a prize from our Summer Treasure Chest when you visit the library!  (Up to three prizes per visit, depending on the number of books read.)  The biggest reward of the Young Readers program is the one-on-one time spent with your child reading!

Please see the Teen Page for our Middle and High School Program.

Summer Crafts at the Library!

The Craft Room is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 to 4 on Friday, and 10 to 1 on Saturday!

Every Monday there will be a new craft set up, using the weekly themes of the Summer Reading Program.  Craft weeks start July 3rd and run through August 26th.  We ask that an adult stay with children who cannot read in the Craft Room.  Directions are on the Work Tables; just take the supplies from the Supply Table to your Work Table, follow the directions, and...ta-da!  A fun summer project!

Please remember that craft materials must last for a week...don't waste them!  We'd also appreciate it if you clean up after yourself, so that the next person to come in can also start with an organized and neat Craft Room.

 Bella on Books!

Bella is our mascot...the orangutan who sits on top of the display shelf by our Youth Services Desk!  bella onwhite

Bella has a blog, which has several weekly entries about books at the Weston Public Library, in both the Juvenile grades 4 - 6 collection and the Teen collection. Some of those topics include books that are Old Favorites, Booklists of new favorites, Audio reviews and our Teen Open Book page.  Check it out and see what Weston librarians and kids are reading!

Bella's outfit changes based on the books which are on the Display Shelf for assignments, holidays or your reading pleasure! If you'd like to see some of the online recommendations from library staff for great reads., click on the link on the sidebar, or visit BellaOnBooks.wordpress.com. We'd love to see you there!
